H.M.S. Bulwark, 1,940 tons was a third-rate of 74 guns built at Portmouth in 1806. Laid down as Scipio, her name was changed whilst she was still on the stocks and she was launched as Bulwark on 23 April 1807. The second vessel of this name to serve in the Royal Navy, she appears to have spent most of her early life in the Mediterraneen from where she was sent to North American waters sometime after the war with the United States began in 1812. In August 1814, Bulwark was ordered to join a squadron making for the mouth of the Penobscot River and, during September, provided men and boats for the successful operations there. On 23 October, Bulwark captured the American privateer Harlequin and subsequently took another privateer, the Tomahawk, in July 1815 even though the War was by then over. Returning to her peacetime duties, Bulwark was broken up at Portsmouth in September 1826.
