H.M.S. London, 2590 tons, was a 2nd rate ship-of-the-line built at Chatham in 1840. Originally mounting 92 guns, she measured 206 feet in length and had a 54½ foot beam. Her first extended period of service was in the Baltic and Black Sea Fleets during the Crimean War of 1854-56, and thereafter she was sent to the Mediterranean. In 1875 she became depot-ship to the East African anti-slavery patrol based at Zanzibar and was broken up there in 1884.
