Lot Essay
The Clipper Oracle, 1196 tons, was built by Chapman & Flint of Thomaston, Maine, in 1853. Originally New York owned, she was sold into British hands in the early 1860s, renamed Young England and put onto the China Tea run. Her best passage was 90 days from Shanghai to Liverpool (18 December 1863 to 17 March 1864) under Captain Smith but her subsequent career is unknown.
