Praxiteles, an Athenian sculptor of the mid-fourth century B.C. is particularly renowned for the full length statue of Hermes carrying the infant Dionysus at Olympia, illustrated Greek Sculpture, John Warrack, Otto Schulze and Co., Edinburgh, plate 44.

It is from this masterpiece of Antique sculpture that the present detail is taken, the bust shows the hand of the infant Dionysus resting on the shoulder of the elder god.
