An Italian walnut open armchair, the arched back with pierced foliate-scroll cresting and central pierced armorial panel with female figures, the down swept guilloche carved arms with sphynx supports, with padded seat and stiff leaf carved seat rail on reeded baluster turned legs, the back stamped Barbetti, Firenze Anno 1863, the seat rail similarly stamped, mid 19th Century.
n.b. An Angelo Barbetti is recorded as exhibiting at the Phiadelphia Exhibition of 1876 and a 16th Century style walnut cabinet by him, shown at the Paris 1855 Exhibition, is now in the Bethnal Green Museum. See 19th European Furniture, Christopher Payne, Antique Collectors Club
