Pollett studied painting at the Art Students League under John Sloan in 1918 and worked throughout the 1920's in Woodstock. At that time he was considered one of America's most remarkable young artists. He was often likened by his critics to Van Gogh because of his bold use of color and energetic paint application. Most of his later works, unfortunately, were destroyed by a fire in his New York studio.
