The passport, in the name of Mr. Henry Raikes, was issued by Lord Clarendon. The bearer arrived by sea at St. Petersburg on 24th June, 1858 (12th June, Old, i.e. Julian Calendar). It was presumably on this trip that he bought the icon of the Mother of God and St. Sergius. The price was two roubles.
