The Konigsberg was a light cruiser, 3,400 tons, launched at Kiel Dockyard 1905. At the out-break of the first world war she operated as a merchant raider off the East African Coast. In late 1914
she was discovered by H.M.S. Chatham lying in a branch of the Rufiji River. On July 6th 1915 she was bombarded and sunk by H.M.Monitors, Mersey and Severn, aided by four seaplanes as spotters
