The present work is a five foot study for Leader's Royal Academy exhibit of 1839, no. 499, entitled 'By Mead and Stream'. It was purchased from the artist by Arthur Tooth for #400, for engraving purposes and consequently the print of the Royal Academy exhibit was etched from the present work. The Royal Academy exhibit of the same title measures 53 x 88 inches and is now in the Burnley Museum and Art gallery, Towneley Hall, Burnley, Lancashire, England.
