This binder was actually used on the sales counter at Mortimer Street. MacAlpine was closely associated with the pre-war Leica News and Technique and had a number of photographs published in it and contributed many of the technical notes during the 1930s. He later worked for Kodak Ltd in their Technical Advisory Department.
