A Japanese lacquer rectangular coffer and hinged domed cover with incised copper mounts and handles decorated in hiramakie, takamakie and pewter with birds and flight and perched among flowering prunus branches issuing from behind a fence within zigzag borders, the sides decorated with further fruiting branches and flowering shrubs before a hut on a hilly landscape, the interior decorated in gilt with ho-o in flight above foliage (chips, cracks and old wear) -- 23¼in. wide, 17th Century.
