In their bold, confident handling, exceptional chasing and distinctive deeply-channelled nozzles, these wall-lights are reminiscent of the oeuvre of the bronzier François-Thomas Germain. Similar nozzles appear for instance on the wall-lights in the J. Paul Getty Museum, which are inscribed FAIT PAR F.T. GERMAIN.SCULP.ORF.DU ROI AUX GALLERIES DU LOUVRE.1756 and were originally supplied for Louis-Philippe, duc d'Orléans for the Palais Royal (illustrated in C. Bremer-david et al., Decorative Arts An Illustrated Summary Catalogue of the Collections of the J. Paul Getty Museum, Malibu, 1993, no.169, p.103).
