etching and aquatint with extensive hand-coloring in finger-printed inks, 1947, on wove paper, signed and dated in pencil, inscribed 'épreuve d'essai pour Todd' by the artist and then further inscribed '+ for Paula with love from Ruthven. 1950', a proof apart from the hand-colored examples included in the first 50 deluxe copies of the book, with full margins, some old matting instructions in the margins, pale mat staining on the reverse, otherwise generally in very good condition
