This elegant form of plinth-foot and herm leg featured on a pembroke table supplied by Thomas Chippendale Junior to Newby Hall, Yorkshire, in the mid-1770's (see: C. Gilbert, The Life and Work of Thomas Chippendale, London, 1978, vol. II, p. 251, fig. 459). Messrs. A. Hepplewhite & Co. in their, Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Guide, 1788 commented on the usefulness of such 'Pembroke' tables and illustrated one of this form as pl. 62
