The earliest recorded use of this type of Chinoiserie fretwork in England is by Sir William Chambers in his Designs for Chinese Buildings, Furniture etc. of 1757. This type of chair was used at the Brighton Pavilion and one of the chairs there is illustrated in F. Collard, Regency Furniture, Woodbridge, 1985, p. 202
