Parts of the composition, including Christ's hands and the head of the man on the left, are closely related to the artist's painting of the same subject in the Pinacoteca Querini Stampalia, Venice (S. Mason Rinaldi, Palma il Giovane, L'opera completa, Milan, 1984, p. 145, no. 560, fig. 273, where dated c. 1600).
