Seton Palace, East Lothian, was the seat of the Earls of Wintoun until the 1715 rebellion when their estates were forfeited to the Crown. The antiquary Francis Grose drew it in the 1780s in a ruinous state. In 1789 Alexander Mackenzie of Portmore commissioned Robert Adam to clear the ruins and build a new castle style house beside the remains of the former palace. Seton Castle (also known as Seton House) survives more or less unaltered
