A FRENCH GILTWOOD SALON SUITE, of Louis XVI style, upholstered in rose-red ground Aubusson covers, with panels of foliage in shades of ivory, cream and pale green, comprising: four fauteuils, four side chairs and a canapé each with toprail carved with ribbon-tied quiver and flaming torch with berried laurel swags, the rectangular tapering padded back with swept top and flanked by fluted uprights with acorn finial, the padded armrests on baluster supports, the stuff-over seat with bowed frontrail, on four circular-fluted tapering legs with brass castors and bone wheels, second half 19th Century (9)

A similar Louis XVI giltwood suite was sold by Christie's New York, 15 October 1988 (lot 134), with fine disengaged colonettes and châpeau-de-gendarme cresting. The New York suite, however, lacked any ribbon-tied carving on the top rail.
