The drawing is undated and seems to be an independent composition rather than a study for one of Solomon's paintings. It is, however, typical of his French academic style (he studied under Cabanel at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris in the late 1870s), and finds many parallels in his work. One of the closest is his painting Eve, exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1908 and now the property of Ealing Public Libraries.
