Perhaps the ribbed basket represents Egypt as being the bread basket of the Roman empire. This plaque is of interest in showing the position of the right fingers and what was held in the emperor's left hand; for the Prima Porta statue with restored fingers and holding a spear, cf. A. W. Lawrence, Greek and Roman Sculpture, London, 1972, pp. 256-257, pl. 77
