Charles Valton (1851-1918) trained under Barye and Frémiet and exhibited regularly at the Salon from 1868. He was a prolific and wide ranging sculptor, specialising with success in animal sculpture. In this field his subject matter varied from wild beasts to smaller scale animals such as the present charming mouse.
