These three scenes are taken from engravings by Johann Elias Ridinger (1698-1767) best remembered for his hunting scenes. The scene of the scholar is taken directly from an engraving entitled 'Das Gesicht' illustrated by Ducret (1972), no. 193 and discussed p. 22; a beaker with similar decoration illustrated ibid, no. 192 and a saucer, from the Otto and Magdalena Blohm Collection, with an almost identical scene is illustrated by Schmidt, col. pl. 32, no. 108
