Gould stated that the Malay Peacock-Pheasant differed from other species of Peacock-Pheasant (see Asia, VII, pl.50) 'in the browner tint of the ground-colour of the plumage and the larger spots on its tail-feathers'. The colours of the female in contrast to the male were a sombre freckled brown.
In the top right corner is a faint pencil sketch probably by Gould of the male's crest.
The male and female are depicted about lifesize.
DISTRIBUTION: Southeastern Asia: Malayan Peninsula and western, northern and southeastern Borneo.
Listed as threatened and vulnerable as its range has been much reduced by the widespread destruction and degradation of lowland forest
