A MINTON MAJOLICA EWER AND STAND after a model by Hugues Protât, the tapering dark-brown body with a knopped shoulder moulded with bands of gadroons and applied with the seated figures of a putto riding a dolphin and a triton clasping the tails of two serpents, their writhing bodies moulded to form a scroll handle attached to a flared lip, the lower body moulded with masks above a flared foot modelled with two putti entwined with a serpent, the stand moulded in shallow relief with four scroll cartouches, each surmounted by a mythical mask and flanked by young tritons with outstretched hands, clasping the whiskers of the masks, the reeded rim entwined with serpents, the scroll cartouches and underside glazed in a mottled green and yellow (lip restored, chip to rim of well of stand, slight glaze chips to rim, minor glaze cracks, impressed date code for 1859
