This watch would appear to be one of the earliest recorded by Thomas Tompion. His numbering system for his first thousand series were coded so that the number of dots accompanying the punched number indicated the hundreds, ie. two dots for the 200 series and three dots for the 300 series etc. However upon reaching 500 the dots were replaced by a feathered cross. The nearest similarly coded watch that has so far been recorded is .86. and made circa 1682
