This type of almond-eyed and Flemish-inspired putto relates closely to the work of the Flemish sculptors working in England in the 18th century: John Michael Rysbrack, Peter Scheemakers and Joseph Nollekens (op.cit.). The roughly-hatched reverse of this figure suggests that it was designed to be placed on a monument against a wall.
