Comte Carlos Fernand Núnez (1778-1821) was Spanish Ambassador to the Court of King Louis XVI. His son, brother to the sitters, a talented diplomat, supported the cause of King Ferdinand VII of Spain and was rewarded with the Embassy to London in 1815. In 1817 he was appointed Ambassador to the Court of King Louis XVIII. Danloux made these portraits just before he left for England in 1791 and before the ambassador returned to Spain
