M.C. London Gazette 20.7.1917 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He made a strong point close to a village under heavy fire of all kinds. He commenced work while the village was still occupied by the enemy. By his rapid work the main position was made secure from counter-attacks'.
