Private Arthur George Nott was killed in action on the Somme on 5.11.1916, while serving with the 2nd Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment. On that day, the Battalion advanced from the French lines near Le Transloy, Lieutenant E.P. Bennett being awarded the V.C. for his courage in leading the second wave of the attack - just 60 men reached the objective. The Battalion had been employed on the Somme since July 1916, High Wood, Mametz Wood and Delville Wood being among the more notable danger spots to be visited en route to Le Transloy (See Westlake's British Battalions on the Somme).
