This drawing was reproduced in Parson's publications (loc.cit.) on portraits of Keats as being by Mary Newton (1832-1866), Arthur Severn's daughter. Mary was taught to paint by both her father and George Richmond, R.A. and became a popular portrait painter in both oil and watercolours. This drawing however is also closely related to Joseph Severn's 'lost' portrait of Keats and appears to date from circa 1820, twelve years before Mary's birth.
Keats died of consumption in February 1821 while in Rome with Joseph Severn.
