Although the Dancing Faun in the Uffizi is first recorded in a publication of 1665, it must have been known earlier in the 17th century, as is proved by Adrien de Vries's adaptation of it (J. Paul Getty Museum, Malibu), if not before. The only unusual feature of the present reduction is the addition of a foliate loincloth in place of a figleaf.
