Lot Essay

Prince Joseph Poniatowski (Vienna 1763-1813 Leipzig), took part in the Napoleonic wars on the French side. The Emperor styled him war-minister of the Grand-Duchy of Warszawa in 1807, and Marchal of the Empire on 16 October 1813, on the occasion of the Battle of Leipzig. Poniatowski drowned in the river Elster on 19 October 1813.
