This table has been constructed in the same way as the military stool (compare Gerrit Th. Rietveld, Centraal Museum Utrecht, 1992, Marijke Küper & Ida van Zijl, p. 93, no. 74) designed by Rietveld in 1923. The table (compare same literature p. 94, no. 75) has a similar construction but has two additional horizontal square section billets centrally placed below the table top and is smaller in size. Orignally Rietveld designed the military series for the Katholiek Militair Tehuis in Utrecht in 1923. Later this series was also executed for others. It seems this table belongs to this category.
The table has been inherited by the present owner from Mrs. Martha van Peski-Nijland, one of Dirk Nijland's daughters. It therefore seems very probable that this table has been designed by Rietveld and could be from the 1930s.
