A SET OF FOUR DUTCH DELFT ALLEGORICAL FOUR SEASONS FIGURAL BUTTERDISHES WITH COVERS, painted in colours and naturalistically modelled in relief, the circular butterdishes in manganese-red with wavy rim and painted with a flowering branch, the covers modelled as figures seated on a rockwork seat on domed green base, comprising;
- one depicting Spring; a young lady wearing a yellow bodice and a hatched skirt, holding a flower above a flowerfilled basket, seated on a marbled rock, tub and cover marked 1 - one depicting Summer; a young gentleman holding a bundle of corn, wearing a manganese-red jacket, green breeches, seated on blue rockwork, tub and cover marked 2 - one depicting Autumn; a young lady leaning over a grapefilled basket, wearing a green bodice and a hatched skirt, seated on marbled
rockwork, the cover marked 3 (the tub a later replacement) - one depicting Winter; a young gentleman wearing a blue coat over a green jacket and orange breeches, warming his hands over a brasero, seated on manganese-red rockwork, tub and cover marked 4 (the cover to the Spring extensively restored), marked for de porceleyne bijl, mid 18th Century (in very large fitted étui)
