Professor Van Regteren Altena first attributed the present lot to Verboom comparing it with a similar drawing in the Rijksprentenkabinet (inv.no. 1881-A125). It may also be compared in subject and style to signed drawings in the Pushkin Museum, Moscow (inv.no. 4746) and in the Kunsthalle, Hamburg (Gernsheim no. 17725)
