maker's mark of Andreas Gilg, Augsburg, circa 1600
Tapering cylindrical and on stepped circular foot with turned ivory insert, with lobed baluster stem, slightly domed cover and standing figure finial, the bowl and cover chased with fruits, flowers and stylised strapwork on a matted ground, the interior of the cover later engraved with initials and dates, in later fitted red leather case, marked on foot - 11in. (28cm.) high
