Mixed Indian and Singhalese travel album

With 74 albumen prints. Circa 1870s - early 1880s. Varying in size from approximately 7¼ x 9¼ in. (18.4 x 23.5 cm.) to approximately 9½ x 11½ in. (24.1 x 29.2 cm.). The majority signed and/or numbered in the negatives including Scowen (2), Deen Dayal (28), Bourne & Shepherd (3), Bourne (16), some also titled in the negatives, tissue guards, half black leather, gilt, g.e.; with an ink manuscript list of subjects loosely inserted.

Photographs from Bombay, Madras, Ahmedabad, Ajmer, Jaipur, Delhi, Agra, Kanpur, Lucknow, Benares (Varanasi) Calcutta and Darjeeling. Including the Maharaja's gold and silver guns at Baroda (Vadodara); the famous railway loop in Darjeeling and the railway line at Sensation Rock, near Kandy; the tiny telegraph office at Mountabon; the massulah boat at Madras; a fine Parsee group portrait; Nautch dancers at a wedding; burning ghats with bodies at Calcutta and Benares, and other views from Ceylon (Sri Lanka).
