The inscription reads 'to the order of Moqareb al-Khaqan (the cobnfidant of the Shah) Ghulam Husayn Khan Bakhtiari in the month of Rajab 1310 (January 1893 AD). A very similar Bakhtiari carpet but with a red border and large black spandrels, made for the same patron two years later was sold in these Rooms, 24 April 1980, lot 12. This carpet is made with an unusually fine weave, similar to that of the best carpets from Fereghan
