The upper pendant cartouche is inscribed 'Sultan b. Sultan Fath 'Ali Shah Qajar'
The central panel inscription is a prayer in Arabic which can be translated 'Oh My God, as You have beautified my outward form (Khalqi), so may you beautify my moral character (khuluqi) and my sustenance'. This sentiment is particularly appropriate for a mirror made for a ruler who prided himself so on his appearance
