A QAJAR SET OF JEWELLER'S WEIGHING SCALES comprising an adjustable vertical shaft pierced with arabesque panels and with turned finials, the top curving out in blued steel with similar terminals to the suspension ring pierced in the form of a duck, the steel balance arm with vertical needle similarly finely worked, brass trays, the fitted case also with graduated brass weights, steel tweezers, three shaped brass and steel boxes with hinged covers, the brass cover engraved, the steel covers etched with floral motifs, also containing a miniature version of the same, with balance arm, scales, and weights within a fitted lacquer case, the main fitted case painted on the interior with floral motifs on a gold ground, the interior of the lid finely painted with the scene of Joseph being weighed before Pharaoh, in a landscape with various attendants, the exterior with well-executed gul-o bulbul panels on a buff ground, within a deep burgundy border finely painted with floral sprays, early 19th century (very slight restoration to lacquer, a few small instruments missing) 23¼ x 12 x 4 1/8in.
