TWO QAJAR POLYCHROME LACQUER PAPIER MACHE QALAMDANS, each with rounded ends and sliding tray, the black ground of one finely painted with golden palmette vine and serrated leaves, the red base and tray with similar gold floral sprays, circa 1850, 9in. (23cm.) long, the other painted with the scene of the Indian prince visiting the sage, the sides with genre scenes, the red base and tray with gold palmette and flowering vine, the top with the later added inscription 'Ya Shah-i Najaf', circa 1880 (very slight chips to ends), 8¾in. (22.2cm.) long
