Qajar Persia, mid-19th century
oil on canvas, in an interior, the King stands in three-quarter profile, the sword of state held unsheathed in his right hand, its richly jewelled sheath hanging from his left side, wearing a tall black hat, white trousers and heavily jewelled black tunic with green sash and with a minature of Fath 'Ali Shah and several medals on his chest, (some damages and repairs), signed below in white nasta'liq by Asadullah b. 'Abdullah, on rectangular stretcher with pointed top, original cut and stamped leather edging

Francis Joseph, Count Beroldingen (1779-1860), privy councillor to the Imperial court
Thence by descent in the Beroldingen family at Schloss Schönbühel until purchased from there by the present vendor's father, circa 1925.
