XUANDE SIX-CHARACTER CAST MARK, 18TH CENTURY
Of rectangular section, the deep body cast on two sides with Arabic inscriptions set within shaped reserves, with a band of bosses within raised borders below the rim and a pair of angular scroll handles on the narrow sides, each positioned above a dragon with backward-turned head and arched body, the whole raised on a flared pedestal foot, the cover surmounted by a Buddhistic lion with brocade ball, splashed overall in gold and with an attractive olive-gold patina--14in.
