Provenance
Given by the Brazilian Imperial Princess Dona Isabel de Orleans e Braganca to the Baroness of Loreto (Amanda Paranagua) on the occasion of her wedding on May 30, 1868. By repute, as small children the two women were playing together in the gardens of the Palace Quinta da Boa Vista when the Princess poked out one of Amanda Paranagua's eyes. Perhaps because of this the Princess held the Amanda as her life-long confidante and her marriage to the Baron of Loreto was the subject of considerable rejoicing in the royal household.
