MAKER'S MARK OF LORENCO RIBEIRO DA ROCHA, SALVADOR (BAHIA), EARLY 18TH CENTURY

The baluster ewer on domed spreading foot chased with pateraw and gadrooning, the lower body chased with stylised acanthus and flutes on a matted ground below an applied mid-band, the shoulder bright-cut engraved with strapwork and tassels, with leaf-clad scroll handle, engraved under the lip with an oval badge; the oval basin with gadrooned border and acanthus at intervals, with neck curve and engraved strapwork and trelliswork, the center engraved with the same badge, both engraved with initials, marked on foot and body of ewer, the basin marked on border--height of ewer 13 3/8in.(34cm.), length of basin 18in.(45.8cm.)
