The arms are those of Clinton with those of Pelham on an escutcheon of pretence, as borne by Henry, 2nd Duke of Newcastle, born in 1720. He succeeded to the Dukedom on the death of his brother in 1730. He married in 1744 his cousin Catherine, daughter of Henry Pelham the younger brother of the 1st Duke of Newcastle-under-Lyme.
