Comprising a larger and a smaller example, each of baluster form on spreading circular foot with gadrooned border, the body chased with flutes, with two reeded acanthus clad handles terminating in palmetto leaves, the larger with domed cover with similar gadrooned border and surmounted by an acorn finial, engraved with a presentation inscription, marked on rims and cover--height of larger example 15 3/4in.(40cm.)

The inscription reads, This CUP with two others were PRESENTED in the year 1812. To ROB:T TAYLOR, MD by the Friends of Freedom in BOLTON and its vicinity as a Testimonial of their Approbation of his Public conduct in General and particularly for the Spirit evinced by him in Stepping forward to defend the Character of the Inhabitants From gross misrepresentation: and for the Successful Exposure in Parliament of a detestable System of ESPIONAGE highly dangerous and alarming.
