The Earl of Lonsdale ordered three identical windsheilds from the London Goldsmiths George Wickes and Samuel Netherton in 1757/8. As Michael Clayton commented, "The silver windsheild is the epitome of luxury." (Christie's Pictorial History of English and American Silver, 1985, p. 152).
