The present bureau is in the manner of the model supplied by Riesener to the Comtesse de Provence. The inspiration for its marquetry panels comes from the celebrated bureau du Roi Stanislas, also by Riesener and mow in the Wallace Collection, London, and also the bureau du Roi Louis XV, which was imitated by the most celebrated ébénistes in the mid-nineteenth century.
