Lot Essay

Gervais Durand was established in the rue de la Cerisaie before moving to rue Beautreillies in 1878. He specialised in copying eighteenth century furniture, in this case a Louis XV table in the manner of Bernard II Van Risenburgh, and won a medal at the 1889 Paris exhibition. This table, or the same model by Durand, was sold Sotheby's, Monaco, 25 October 1981, lot 27.
